Church News

GVNaz family,

Greetings in the name of Jesus!  I hope that in these challenging days you are sensing God’s closeness and care for you.  I hope that you are drawing nearer to God from your end of that relationship equation and are learning new ways of drawing strength for meeting the challenges of this unique time in history.  If you need help with these things or would like to talk about them, I would be glad to talk by phone or to meet with you.

As I’ve said numerous times via video, Covid-19 can’t stop the church of Jesus Christ, and it certainly hasn’t stopped GVNaz!  Our summer worship services on the lawn have been a great source of encouragement to me, and judging by the growing attendance, they are having a similar effect in your lives.  Several people have made “first time or for-real time” commitments to Jesus during our services— isn’t that fantastic?!?  I love it!

In an attempt to continue moving forward and to prepare for ministry in our changing world, our church board and I recently invited a ministry couple to spend a weekend with us interviewing, meeting people, and worshipping.  These processes matter as we seek God’s preferred future for our church.  After an eventful weekend, and much discussion and prayer, the church board and I did not have a clear and unified sense that God was directing us to partner with that couple; therefore, we decided not extend a ministry call to the interviewees. It was a difficult decision, and on behalf of the board I want to thank you for praying for us and for our congregation as a whole.  I know we all had hoped for a different answer to those prayers, but God heard and answered them by bringing our board to a unified decision.

We will continue our search for pastoral staff who will help us.  We will continue our quest for unity in the church.  We will continue to look for ways to welcome preChristian people into our fellowship and into the kingdom of Jesus.  In other words, we’ll continue to be the Church. Please ask God to help all of us with these things.

Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Cliff and the GVNaz Church Board
